Steps To Take To Become A Real Estate Agent In Florida
Starting a real estate career in Florida is an exciting journey—and it all begins with the right preparation. Follow these simple steps to meet state requirements and launch your future as a licensed Real Estate Professional.
STEP 1
PRE-LICENSING COURSE
Complete and pass the required 63-hour PRE-LICENSING course.
- Successfully completing this course which also entails receiving a passing grade of 70%.
- Students can only miss 8 hours of this course for any reason as per state requirements (missed classes must be made up within 30 days of the scheduled course completion).
Flagler School of Real Estate is a State Approved Provider of Real Estate Certification in Florida.
STEP 2
COMPLETE STATE APPLICATION
Submit a state application along with fingerprints (we recommend that students do this once they register for class).
- You can obtain a State application by visiting www.myfloridalicense.com.
Electronic Fingerprinting is a part of the application process and should be completed as soon as possible.
In order to apply you must:
- Be at least 18 years of age.
- Have a valid Social Security number.
- Have a high school diploma or equivalency.
- Be able to answer questions regarding any criminal background if such exists.
STEP 3
PASS THE STATE EXAM
Pass the state licensing exam with a score of at least 75%.

Can I take the Pre-Licensing Course Online?
Yes, you can take the Florida State-approved FREC pre-license course online.
However, it’s important to understand that many online courses are not conducive to effective learning and exam preparation. The sheer volume of knowledge required to pass the state exam can be overwhelming. Without the structured guidance of an instructor, many students either give up or struggle to retain the necessary information.

What are the requirements to get a Florida realtor license?
You must have or complete all of the following:
- Must be 18 Years of age.
- Have a Social Security Number (You do not have to be a U.S. Citizen to have a Social Security Number).
- A high school diploma or equivalent (You do not need to submit documentation with your application).
- Complete the Florida-approved 63-Hour Pre-License Course for Sales Associates.
- Pass the end of course exam with a score of 70 or higher.
- Take the State Exam and pass with a score of 75 or higher.
